ROVER MAESTRO MG TURBO 1991 Our British Racing Green MG Maestro Turbo number 423 of 505 is ready for a new home.
Only 505 of these massively brilliant and hugely underrated cars, were created and only a small number of them are still on the road, with the British Racing Green being rare.
Ours has 66,500.00 miles on the clock, and that mileage is backed up by the MOT history. Her MOT is valid until 27th April 2025. We purchased her from Kev Willis (BMW Race Driver and Senior Mechanic based in Salisbury), who did an amazing job of getting the best out of the engine, whilst keeping everything as original as possible. The body work was already well looked after, and wax oiled with protection being forced into all the nooks and crannies.
Using the MG Owners Club condition scale of 1 to 5, we would confidently place our car within a condition scale of a solid 3. This is a great car, that has given us total reliability and amazing driving pleasure. The way we think of her, is to look at her as an epic car that gives you two options. The first option is to use her like we have and to just enjoy her. She is so good and reliable, that you can just carry on where we leave off, protect that strong and useable condition,so that you can just enjoy her. We literally get her MOT ‘d and serviced, each year and keep her garaged, knowing that whenever we want, she is there to entertain us without question or effort. We do have an original Rover stereo; radio / cassette, but we have fitted a new Pioneer CD stereo.
If your interest and passion, is more focused on shows and looking to enhance the show side of classic car ownership, then there is enough scope for you to uplift a small number of age-appropriate blemishes, to give you a car that jumps up that MG Owners Club condition scale. Without too much effort, you could easily end up with a car that sits comfortably at condition 1. For us, we love her as she is. She turns heads all the time and going out for a drive can often take 3 times longer than it should because people want to talk to us about her. In essence, she is a useable, reliable, beautiful and superb car to drive. The performance of the car is just amazing, with compelling and addictive acceleration. Yet above all the real joy of this car is the handling. The way that she gobbles up bends is just epic, she rides bends in such a flat and confident way and on a lovely road with plenty of twists and turns you really get to enjoy driving. This MG Maestro Turbo captures a moment in time when hot hatches took advantage of turbo tech and the tuning developments from Tickford, but still managed to present an analogue experience that makes you feel as though you are driving an exciting car.
In summary then this is an MG Mastro Turbo that is ready to take you back to 1990 and give you experiences that you can treasure without asking anything of you. Keep her garaged, a decent service once a year to tie in with the MOT and you have car who you can love and enjoy. Or if you are interested in car shows and events then there is enough non contentious and comfortable scope to win prizes by taking the condition from 3 to 1!
This year we put a full set of continental tyres on her and since those were fitted we have done less than 100 miles, hence plenty of life in a brilliant set of tyres that really allow her handling to shine.
She is ready for her new home because of personal health issues which mean that we are driving her less and less and she is just too good not to be out on the road making you and the people who see her smile!
This is a rare but accessible and totally useable classic that you can drive and love. Is she perfect and in classic concours condition? No she isn’t, there are blemishes here and there and bits of ware and tear that are honest. Is she brilliant, yes! She will blow you away with how well she drives and the performance and handling are compelling! And of course she looks amazing! Of course we are biased, but only because our Maestro Turbo deserves it!!
