Current V5 present. Paperwork includes an Owner's Manual, a printed copy of an original sales brochure, a Haynes Volvo 120 & 130 Series Plus 1800 Sports Owners Workshop Manual, printed history about the work conducted on the vehicle, MOT certificates, printed photographs of a repaint, an old parts price list, a Wiring Diagram, various articles showing this particular vehicle, and a large amount of invoices for parts and work carried out.
The vendor has provided the following:
1972 Volvo 1800ES 2.0 petrol fuel injection 124hp, 4 speed manual gearbox with overdrive. Finished in alpine blue metallic with original black leather interior and gold fabric carpet. First registered 7th January 1972. The production number is 427 of 8077, therefore the vehicle is one of the first in the production run completed 26 November 1971 per Volvo UK, with an Engine no: 187 and Body no: 492. Even though MOT exempt, it has a current MOT until 22 June 2024. The car has undergone an extensive body and mechanical restoration, complete with over 800 photos and invoices of the restoration from 2012 to 2024 on a memory stick. With Volvo owners manual & Haynes workshop manual. Mileage is 64,000 corroborated by the previous private owner, the odometer was reset by him when at just over 60,000 miles and now shows 4,000 miles. A stunning example of a legendary car. We know some of its history and have some original Volvo bills from Olaf Olsen of Huddersfield from the early 1980s. The ninth owner was from Sheffield, he owned it from 1988, when it failed its MOT due to a rotting floor pan, it was then parked in a garage for some years. We purchased the car from the tenth owner, as it had undergone a full acid dip and strip in 2013, full body & component restoration and respray in 2 tone paint finish. We thought it was a good base car to work with. We have spent a considerable amount on rebuilding the engine after it overheated (due to the cooling fan scoring the radiator), re-cored the radiator, skimmed, and rebored the cylinder head, with unleaded valve seats, new cylinder head gasket, cooling fan, fitting a new heater valve, brake servo and fuel tank. Oil pressure gauge re-furbished and new oil pressure line fitted. We had the car under sealed again and fitted an Autosound classic car DAB/FM radio 200 with Bluetooth connectivity. We received the runner up prize at the Volvo Owners’ Club Northern Group Best Kept Volvo in August 2021 for the 1800/Amazon class, before our current respray & bodywork replacement. In early 2023, the car being 51 years old, we had it resprayed in an original Volvo 1800ES colour, alpine blue metallic (code: 111-2), the engine detailed in Volvo red, and the wheels returned to silver. We took the opportunity to have the non-standard roof aerial and some imperfections in the bodywork removed. We replaced the chrome side strips, windscreen trims, front & rear bumpers, rear badges, tailgate locking mechanism, door handles, wiper arms and 4 new chrome wheel trims. We had a new injector wiring harness rewire, speedo cable, thermostat & ignition-coil fitted, a full service & MOT. Also, we had a new interior headlining and sun visors fitted, the leather front seats have a good patina for their age and the gold carpets are in reasonable condition, so have kept those original. Since Jun 2023 with the bodywork completed, we have been to many classic car shows, winning first in class at the Hebden Bridge Festival of Vintage in August 2023. We were invited to show the car at the NEC classic car show in November 2023 which was quite an accolade and received many favourable comments.
