Rickman Honda Cr
History
Frame kit sold by Rickman to the owner in the Netherlands in 1974
Believed purchased by owner previous to myself in 1996.
Purchased by myself from the 2nd owner in the Netherlands in 2022. A total of 3 owners. It is registered in the UK in my name as a ‘Historic Vehicle’ with an age related registration and what is believed to be the original engine. The total mileage is unknown but the previous owner suggested about 32,000 when he purchased and stored it but he couldn’t be sure.
Restoration
Previous owner restored the wheels/forks. I had new fibreglass fairing, mudguard and seat made then all painted by Dream Machine in what I believe to have been the original colour which is extremely unusual as most Rickman CRs were left in the orange gel coat colour. The fuel tank which was fibreglass had rotted with the modern fuel used and was replaced by a ‘Holtworks’ alloy tank. The seat was re-upholstered as close to original as possible.
The brakes were overhauled with new master cylinders, lines and rebuilt callipers.
The engine was totally rebuilt with new bearings throughout, the engine mountings were laser welded restoring the casings to ‘as new’ along allowing the original engine to be re-used with the following period tuning parts fitted:
Since rebuild the carb mixture has been checked on a rolling road and has been adjusted so is now a good base point for running in. I have covered 70 miles but find that the riding position is now too extreme for my age/size hence the bike being placed up for sale. Most receipts are included and I have a few parts that I would gladly post on to the new owner including the original rear sets (that need rebuilding) and a set of new swinging arm adjusters. Warning. As with all bikes of this period, do not leave the fuel taps on after use-you could ruin the engine with a diluted oil supply. Riding experience indicated why these bikes were so far ahead of their time with excellent handling. This one also has the larger 41mm forks as standard.
