Occasionally something turns up in the Mathewsons yard which you’re really not expecting.
The Argocat is more at home with Delta company of Special Forces or carrying out heroic rescues on behalf of the fire service so when we saw Paul Mathewson moving one around a slightly drizzly Pickering yard we had to have a proper nosey.

It came with the added bonus of actually starting… shame it only steered in one direction.

There was no paperwork with our amphibious vehicle but the serial number suggests it was manufactured between 81 and 84.

The engine is a Kohler twin 4 stroke which had evidence of a replacement carb. The previous owner said it had recent brakes and tyres.

After that… we knew very little, apart from it looked like heaps of fun.

£3100 later we were the proud owners of an Argocat.
It whizzed off for expert TLC at Hethersgill ATV Services in Cumbria.

Work included:
New axle bearing
Braking system overhaul (so it turns in both directions!)
Engine service including plugs and oil
Bodywork revival
Headlight covers painted.

We still didn't know if it would float so to test this we used not one but two Mathewsons.
Our splash test dummies, Paul and Charlie survived the dip and can report the Argocat floats.

We reckon the next owner too will have plenty of muddy fun.

Please note:
This vehicle is for off-road use only.
We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classics and will no doubt have imperfections. Please do your own checks before bidding.
