The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this 1968 Riley Kestrel is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

Many people watch Restoring Classics and think we don’t look underneath the cars before we buy them. Well, with this one we didn’t even look at the outside of it!

After an almost terminal dose of auction fever we eventually travelled to see the Kestrel in Thornton-Le-Dale and noticed it was something far too similar to a car we’d already restored.

After quickly realising we’d made an error Derek tried to make us feel better and said he could get it going in under an hour. We were lenient on our timings for Derek, as he was doing us a favour, but he has successfully managed to get it going. You can’t drive it (yet)…but you can run the engine.

Derek says ‘I had it starting and running in 40 mins. When it did it burst into life. A hydraulic fault on the clutch was obvious (Master cylinder or slave cylinder…perhaps both!)’

Alas, the next auction is upon us and we’re ready to sell the Kestrel on.

Please Note: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles (actually didn’t even bother with one) but they are classics and will no doubt have imperfections. Please do your own checks before bidding.

Derek's Comments:

  • A Pickering car that has lived a life in the town.
  • Family owned and recently out of resting for 20+ years.
  • We had it running in 40 minutes although a clutch hydraulic issue stops it being driven.
  • Looks solid, check it out yourself.
  • Will make a car!
