The vendor has provided the following:
The Bangers TV restoration team have clearly been listening - they bought a car we all admire. They purchased this rare 2 owner Reliant Scimitar GTC at our October ‘23 auction to restore for the programme. The work has been carried out by top Scimitar specialists, Graham Walker in Cheshire - who have done a great job.
The car’s recommissioning was filmed for a future episode of the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics show - so you will see the whole process and the lengths they have gone to.
As you would expect with a Scimitar, it is a really good drive.
The Banger’s Team write…
We bought this GTC for what we thought was a decent price - 7k inc. commission. It was a runner, but there was a long list of things to put right, we have spent 10k on it - and it shows.
It has a big history file revealing just 2 previous owners. The first was a company sales director in the ‘80s who piled on 50k miles in a couple of years - and the second owner has had it ever since. It was the family daily driver for a good while before being put in the garage for more selective use.
It was solid, well maintained and had a massive parts receipts file from Graham Walker’s going back over the decades. The vendor drove it to the sale, and left it with a long (and helpful) list of everything that he felt needed doing, right down to a missing male popper on the soft top and some tired velcro on the B posts.
We got in touch with Graham Walker and Dave Jones, who Scimitar folks will know very well - and persuaded them to take on work for us. It is fair to say Dave added to the list of things that needed doing, but were in agreement - this was going to make a great car.
I thank them and their team for their massive enthusiasm for the project as they have gone the extra mile. I've said this before, I so wish that I didn't have to sell this car. I think it is so usable and very classy.
Below is a resume of the major work they have done - plus a million more small things not listed to make this car what you must come and view.
The fuel tank was replaced with a new stainless-steel unit along with new mounting straps, sender unit, hoses and filter
The rear axle was removed and overhauled with all new bearings, seals and thrust washers. Corroded suspension mountings cut away and new mountings welded in, cleaned and painted prior to refitting with new wheel bearings and bump stops
Front suspension both sides removed, stripped and examined, worn or damaged parts replaced with new items, retained parts cleaned and repainted then reassembled with new polyurethane bushes and refitted to the car.
Excessive under seal and loose surface rust scraped off where necessary and refinished with Hammerite paint.
The obsolete cooling fan and air horns and their wiring removed, remaining wiring made safe and tidy, the air filter replaced with a K&N unit to improve performance and prevent contact with the underside of the bonnet.
Electrical work was extensive and included fitting new rear fog lights, inner headlights and many new bulbs fitted behind the dashboard, rewiring the radio, fitting a new electric aerial, removing obsolete wiring and switches and ensuring that all electrical components work correctly.
Both door mirrors were removed, the drivers mirror repaired both refitted with new mounting plinths, both anti burst catches removed, cleaned and freed off prior to refitting and adjusting both doors.
The fault with the windscreen wipers was traced to the wiper motor which was replaced with a reconditioned unit.
The driver’s seat was removed, the torn skirt and piping replaced and reassembled with new foam and supporting diaphragm prior to refitting to the car.
The Wolfrace road wheels were removed and sent to be diamond cut and lacquered as original refitted with new centre caps, chrome nuts and collars.
