The vendor of this 1950’s Columbia Built Beach Cruiser is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:
We seem to be doing quite well at making a profit on things without an engine. So when we saw this ‘3 Star’ Beach Cruiser complete with 2 spare tyres and a stand turn up in Pickering, we couldn’t resist!
We snapped up a total bargain and shipped it over to the other, much rainier, side of the pennines to Pop-Up Bikes in Manchester. Prakash and Mike (who’s only mode of transport is his trusty bike) were very enthusiastic about our purchase, and got to work to make it even better.
First and foremost, they made our Beach Cruiser safe. A fresh set of tyres were added and an in depth service was completed, which looked at all the crucial components (brakes, chain, wheels, lights etc).
There was a very intriguing button on the side of the frame which didn’t seem to do anything. After some research we learnt it was originally there to operate an air horn! No one likes a superfluous button, so the air horn has been reinstated into the frame. They polished up what chrome they could, and replaced the handlebars as they were a little too far gone.
So now complete with 4 spare tyres, the old handlebars and a stand, the bike is back in Pickering to find its new home!
P.s. to brake…pedal backwards!
