Current V5 present. Paperwork includes an Austin A70 and A90 service manual, a price guide, snippets from Classic Car Weekly, an Austin A70/A90 parts list, rubber seals and two Austin County car club magazines.

The vendor has provided the following:

Back in the early 1950s, the A70 Hereford was a rarity to see on the road, with only around 50,000 units being produced in its 4-year life. So, you can imagine that today, 72 years later, they’re even rarer to find in working condition let alone excellent condition like this one.

I purchased the car in July 2021 off an old friend whose father had passed away during the covid period. His partner was in the process of selling his assets and was being rather messed around by a number of individuals who bought some of his other cars. I therefore offered an appropriate price and purchased the Austin.

The previous owner had owned the car for over 40 years and used the car every year to attend numerous car rallies across the UK and was a very well-known enthusiast on the classic car circuit and especially well known within the Austin counties car club of which I am a member. They have been most helpful during the work I have completed on the car. The Austin Hereford is also well known, appearing on the wiki page and featuring very often if one “googles” the car pictures of the car pop up very frequently.

From a body work perspective, the car is solid, and the paint is deep and gleams like it should. Bright work is also good. All original buttons and switches etc and there is no radio currently in the car.

With the car being dry stored for nearly 40 years I was amazed at how good the body work was and all it took was a bit of elbow grease and a polish to bring back the shine you see today. Mechanically the car is also solid and superb.

I replaced the brake master cylinder and slave cylinders, some of the brake pipes and completed a full rewire of the car using a bespoke handmade loom (its positive earth too – enjoy) and of course fully serviced the car and replaced the battery, all oils replaced too and greased the many many grease nipples one finds on the car, and there are lots by the way.

The interior of the car was tired and in need of some major restoration and this was subsequently completed by Aldridge trimming (of car SOS fame) who made an absolutely superb job of the whole interior, and it simply transforms the car as you can see from the pictures.

The dash was taken out during the re-wire and refurbished with gear linkages updated to ensure a smooth gear selection – it’s a column shift by the way.

I took the widow of the previous owner to the classic car event in Gaydon in 2022 on an emotional and very hot day on the Austin Counties Car Club stand where we enjoyed a lovely picnic with the family during the event right next to the car. It did the 40 miles or so either way without fault and is lovely to drive at a sedate pace of course. Since that time, it has been dry stored in a professional storage company location near to where I live and now is the time to sell and look for my next project.

There are a number of spares that will be included in the sale too. These will be in a box in the carpeted boot.
