The vendor of this lovely Ultra Violet (Purple) Mk2 Raleigh Chopper is the Bangers & Cash team.

They write:

The Bush Radio, the Bond Bug…and the Chopper.

We pay tribute to the late Tom Karen’s iconic designs in a future episode of Bangers & Cash when we feature the restoration of our two Mk 2 Raleigh Choppers.

The MK2 was considered (by Raleigh at least) safer than the Mk1, with its shorter seat discouraging mass occupancy and the T bar gear selector not causing hospitalisation after one of those troublesome dismounting injuries.

Being a MK2 means these bikes are post ‘73 and would have initially retailed at £37.50!

Both our choppers come restored & accessorised, even with the must have Esso ‘Tiger in your Tank’ furry tails, one of which we are led to believe is an original from the early ‘70s, although we do not have a certificate of authenticity!

The bikes were both looking tired and in need of restoration to make them fit for purpose when we bought them - and they weren’t cheap then. They were pretty original though. We thought we would keep it that way rather than build two new bikes with all new parts - which is possible.

We sent them to Fife to restore, to Davie - who has a bit of experience in that he has restored
790 choppers in the last 12 years.

Both bikes have been fully stripped down, cleaned and sorted. Replacement front wheel in one case, handlebars for both. Tyres, brakes, pads, callipers, seat refurb., decals, etc. then reassembled, fully road tested and all extensively filmed.

We didn’t rechrome, and only bought replacement and second hand parts when the old ones were beyond repair - keeping the bikes as authentic as possible but usable - very important, should you wish to go to the chippie.
