Current V5 present. Paperwork includes an MG D Handbook, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certified Copy of a Factory Record, a Passport to Service containing 1 stamp, scanned copies of MOT certificates, MOT certificates, printed photographs of the vehicle, old tax discs, various motor insurance documents, various specification booklets, an MG Sports magazine, and some invoices for parts and work.

The vendor has provided the following:

The vendor of this 1969 MGC is the Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics team. They write:

We bought this car for a hammer price of £21,500. Covered, dry-stored and off the road for most of its life, the car has had one previous owner and a substantial history file that documents the 5300 miles on the clock. The passenger seat still has the clear plastic delivery cover on it.

XDT was bought on 06/01/69 for £1263, supplied by Kennings in Doncaster to agent S. Plumb & Sons. The car box file is a slice of history - original bills of sale, MOTs, tax discs, service passport & including the original Union keys in FS sized dealer leather key pouches.

We appreciated that we were lucky to have this special car, and also knew that we were merely the temporary custodians of XDT. We consulted & took advice from Derek in the first instance, and the MG Owners Club at a very early stage. Everyone agreed that the brief for recommissioning should be absolutely focused on the car’s originality. With the mantra “It’s only unique once” ringing in our ears - we decided to take the car from Yorkshire to the MGOC workshop in Swavesey to use their skills and expertise to do just the required work to make it a roadworthy and useable, whilst spending a deal of time keeping it original - if that makes sense!

The new owner may choose to do more, but the important thing is that choice is still there to make.

The car needed the very lightest of recommissions to bring it back to life - whilst retaining its authenticity. The phrase on the invoices is, “re-commission car after many years off the road.”

Mechanically: New parts have been used sparingly and just where required to bring it up to scratch - and get it through an MOT.

The brake servo is still the original - now refurbished, but new cylinders, shoes, pads etc. The cooling system, the same philosophy - the original radiator was re-cored and refurbished but the hoses are new. The car needed a new fuel tank & pump. We have changed the wires to new silver painted wheels with new radials. The original factory painted wires and original crossply tyres will follow the car to its new home.

The body work is all original. Much discussion about the chrome over-sill covers which were dealer fitted from new, or very soon after. They have remained in place. The alloy bonnet has had a few garage dents pulled and the few paint blisters treated and touched up. It is imperfect, but original. You may choose to paint it, but we haven't.

The hood is in good original order and has had one tiny tear fixed.

It is now a very usable “C” - with 5300 miles on the odometer. The hope is it finds someone to finally drive it.

XDT boasts an MOT valid until June 2025.

Please Note: We take great pride in restoring our vehicles but they are classics and will no doubt have imperfections. Please do your own checks before bidding.

Derek's Comments:

  • Finished in factory tartan red with superb original black leather upholstery.
  • Fitted wire wheels, overdrive, hood cover, etc.
  • Paperwork confirms it is 5,345 from new in the hands of one elderly owner.
  • The plastic seat protector is still on the passenger seat and the original spare wheel is still in the boot with unused tools.
  • Amazing find!
