1969 Daimler mk2 250 automatic & power steering
One of the very last Daimler MK2s ever built
The first owner who owned it for 42 years, an enthusiastic motor engineer wanted to turn his MK2 into a traditional-looking, super reliable, and fast classic. (a wolf in sheep’s clothing!)
No welding was carried out or required to see a photo of underneath now the MK2 is always being kept in a heated motor house
To achieve his dream, he had the car stripped to bare metal and repainted with all joints and seams led in moorland green (the paintwork was carried out a couple of years ago and stands up very well with the odd imperfection), with leather upholstery and cloth headlining, are in good order.
The original 2.5 engine and gearbox were removed and replaced with a fully rebuilt 4.2 xk e straight six engine rebuilt by Classic & race Sussex (well known at Goodwood). costing £7,084 plus parts!
This resulted in an engine giving approximately 220 bhp resulting in a very lively car being much faster than a Jaguar MK2 3.8 of its day.
The automatic gearbox was also fully rebuilt by crucial automatics of Fareham
Both engine and gearbox were fitted approximately 3 years ago and less than 2,000 miles ago. Since then, oil and filters changed irrespective of mileage.
The Daimler never fails to impress people by appreciating the subtleties of the mark and the Pleasant rumble of the engine, whether it be at Goodwood or elsewhere.
Over and above the engine & gearbox work the following new parts have been fitted:
