1926 Austin 20-4 Mayfair Landaulette

Description

SOLD

1926 Austin 20-4 Mayfair Landaulette

Genuinely stunning in Carriage Red over black with beige Bedford Cord upholstery to the rear and black buttoned leather to the front.

Fitted division and occasional seats.

The previous owner has carried out many cosmetic improvements since his purchase in 2010, which has resulted in its pristine, concours appearance.

The history file includes handbooks, buff log book, etc.

Founded in 1905, Herbert Austin was reluctant to economise or compromise on quality, which earned the company an enviable reputation as far as build quality and reliability were concerned. Merged with William Morris in 1952 and described as a merger of giants. In reality it was Austin who emerged the dominant partner, partly due to the direction of Leonard Lord (Ex Morris Motors).

The ex work price of the 4 cylinder model was £575 with the optional Triplex glass an extra £40. A fortune compared to the average weekly wage at that time!
