1946 Sunbeam Talbot 10 Tourer

Description

SOLD

1946 Sunbeam Talbot 10 Tourer

The following has kindly been supplied by the owner of the Sunbeam:-

The Sunbeam-Talbot Ten used a conventional 1141cc side-valve engine mated to a four-speed gearbox. Its 41bhp was enough for nearly 70mph and it would happily buzz along at 50-55 mph all day. Sold for twice the price of the new Austin A40, it was never going to be the best seller in its class, but it was very nicely made, had good performance and looked very elegant indeed. In all some 11,250 were made, although just 1,376 carried the attractive Sports Tourer coachwork.

First registered in Cornwall on 19th August 1946, this lovely Ten was discovered by its previous owner in Ratcliffe on the Wreake, Leicestershire, in 2006 in rather a sorry state and a ground-up restoration commenced. A file of photographs shows the level and quality of the work done. The restoration was completed by 2009, the original and non-transferable number HCV 42 was reinstated, and the car won ‘Best in Class’ at the 2009 Star Rally which says it all.

It was acquired by the previous vendor in 2014 in its current restored condition and he has used it for the occasional tour around Wales and local jaunts. Its four seats and excellent weather equipment, including side screens, make it a snug and practical touring car when the weather closes in and it offers good performance, well able to keep up with modern B-road traffic.

The present owner wasn’t allowed to sell the Sunbeam until it had fulfilled its task of bringing his daughter to her wedding ceremony - that’s now mission accomplished so now it’s time for someone else to enjoy this lovely car.
On the button and ready for immediate use, this unusual and attractive Sports Tourer has been comprehensively restored to a very high standard and would be the perfect way to introduce a young family to early post-war motoring.
