**SOLD** 1977 Jaguar XJC Convertible

1977 Jaguar XJC Convertible.

We have been asked to re-home a selection of cars previously owned by not only one of the most enthusiastic & knowledgeable classic car owners you could ever wish to meet, but a gentleman who with the help of his fellow members at York Vikings Rotary Club, helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities in our area.

Tony Raylor entered many international rallies in the 1960’s and was also Chairman of York Motor Club in the 1970’s.

Tony together with his wife Carolyn, certainly used their car collection. Regular tours on the continent include, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, South Africa, Norway, Le-Mans and Ireland. Wow... not many of us could match that!

Tony passed away earlier in the year. Consequently this is one of those cars.

'The Raylor Collection'

The car was first registered in May 1977 as an XJ6 Coupe. Then in 1989 at a mileage of 50,527 the car was sent to 'Fliptop Conversions' in London. Undergoing the transformation from coupe to convertible. (This is also correctly registered on the vehicles V5 document)

Moving forward to 1999, the vehicle underwent a partial restoration which included, new wings, soft top cover, carpets, and 'Pepperpot' style alloy wheels. At this point the car remained in a very 70's shade of green!

Tony purchased the car in 2003 with a mileage of 53,600.The car was then shipped to the families holiday home in South Africa where it underwent further improvements including a re-spray.

2008 noted a full restoration programme!

All corrosion areas being removed. A full bare metal re-spray was again undertaken. Both the engine and suspension were rebuilt. Interior trim was improved as required and the car was upgraded to series 3 XJ6 specification.

This 'Series 3' upgrade included, exterior chrome work, the fitting of fuel injection together air conditioning. (The car also appears to have been fitted with a 'KM's speedometer at some point?)

This extensive and impressive list of works took three years to complete with the car returning to South African roads in 2011.

In 2018 the car returned to UK shores.

The website gives full details of around 70 Jaguar XJ6's & XJ12's convertibles worldwide. These reside in Australia, Europe, UK, USA and at one point, the only one in Africa!

Accompanying the car is what can only be described as a HUGE history file. The paperwork supplied with the car would take some time to read through thoroughly! There are also two framed 'Show Boards' to display with the car at shows and gatherings.

The description above was taken directly from the show boards which Tony had for each vehicle. These can be seen in the photographs.

NB:- The hood is manual and although a little tricky, can be erected by one person. I just closed & reopened the hood myself. Only taking a few minutes. DTM
