Description

1968 Daimler 420.

We have been asked to re-home a selection of cars previously owned by not only one of the most enthusiastic & knowledgeable classic car owners you could ever wish to meet, but a gentleman who with the help of his fellow members at York Vikings Rotary Club, helped raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities in our area.

Tony Raylor entered many international rallies in the 1960’s and was also Chairman of York Motor Club in the 1970’s.

Tony together with his wife Carole, certainly used their car collection. Regular tours on the continent include, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, South Africa, Norway, Le-Mans and Ireland. Wow... not many of us could match that!

Tony passed away earlier in the year. Consequently this is one of those cars.

'The Raylor Collection'

Manufactured on 13/06/68 and dispatched on 21/06/68.

This vehicle was then delivered to Tony Raylor's father on 01/07/68.

Over time the car was sold and it's it whereabouts unknown, until In 1993 Tony found the car advertised in the 'Autotrader' publication and promptly purchased! Unfortunately the car required a lot of work having been laid unused since 1979. At the time the car had only covered 49,000 miles.

During the following four years the car was extensively renovated before returning to the road in 1997.

In 2001 an original 1960's air conditioning unit was found in South Africa, where Tony & Carole had their winter home, shipped to the UK and fitted to the car. Further improvements followed in 2004 with the engine being rebuilt to original specification by VSE, to aid long distance touring the rear differential was upgraded to Jaguar Series 3 XJ6 specification and the same later Jaguar seats were also added.

Long distance touring followed with the car visiting, Italy, Switzerland, South Africa and Norway to mention just a few.

Having only minimal use in more recent times the car would benefit form the usual recommissioning. We then see no reason why a new life and adventures couldn't follow.

Accompanying the car is what can only be described as a HUGE history file, together with a series of handbooks etc. These can be clearly seen in one of the photographs. The paperwork supplied with the car would take some time to read through thoroughly! There is also a framed 'Show Board' to display with the car at shows and gatherings.
