The vendor has provided the following:
The vendor of this very tidy Nova Merit + is the Bangers & Cash team.
They write:
We bought this car in July this year after Dave M. suggested it as possibly being a good one to recommission and tidy up before returning it to auction. He said it “shouldn’t cost a lot”... and told us exactly what needed doing - in his opinion.
Who doesn’t like an original Nova Merit + that hasn’t been messed with - we thought.
We were won over by its low mileage of just 30,500, a time-warp interior and original early ‘90s window stickers. As a bonus the glove box contained the original owners handwritten notebook cataloguing all weekly/annual motoring expenditure - as you did.
NRH drove well before restoration - idling, revving, steering well and neat gear change, just like Nova’s did.
To return it to its former glory we took it for what we hoped was a quick and easy fettle at restoration specialists The Motorist in North Yorkshire.
Their mechanics sorted the oil leak, changed the cambelt and put on a new back box and gave it a good service. It then headed over to the body shop, where new rear arches were fitted.
Dave M. said it needed partial paint, so we did the lot.
The car has been much admired at The Motorist and a pictorial history of the work will appear on the TV in due course.
K292 NRH comes with a current MOT and we think it is actually a very usable daily classic for the lucky winner. We would keep it as a works car - but it deserves better.
The maths: despite Dave’s best efforts...
We paid just over 3k for the vehicle, including commission & tax.
Double it, and then add 2k more, but it is a great little time warp car…with a big following.
Old MOT certificates, spare key, various mechanics bills, V5 ownership documents, and the handwritten notebook detailing work carried out and parts bought whilst it was with its first owner are all in the bundle.
